Sinking into a chair, with our ears off?

| October 2, 2010

In the folk tradition of learning songs by ear we can’t always play with a stringband or find a fiddler/guitar player or someone to sit down and show us a tune. And now, with so many books and opportunities to learn with tablature, we might find ourselves sinking into a chair with our ears off, and our eyes glued to a sheet of music marked June Apple.

Go on youtube or itunes when we don’t have live musicians to play with.  Try this first before opening a book of tab.  Just try it!  Banjo 1 class at Jalopy found these versions of Cotton Eyed Joe (Sept 2010).

Cotton Eyed Joe

  • Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys
  • Hot Club of Cowtown
  • The Chieftans & Ricky Skaggs
